Comparison of reaction speed

This product utilizes LCD technology with the characteristic that liquid crystal will comply with the direction of electric field. When there is no voltage applied, the light will be rotated by 90 degree such that it can pass through the second layer of polarizer which is orthogonal to first layer of polarizer so the mirror is at bright state. On the contrary, when voltage is applied, liquid crystal will be oriented vertically such that the light will not be rotated and then be blocked by the second layer of polarizer so the mirror is at dark state as shown in graph #1.

Graph #2 is our company’s latest product, auto dimming rearview mirror, which uses LCD technology. It takes less than 0.5 second to change from bright state to dark state at room temperature.

 
 

Traditional EC (electro chromic) technology utilizes EC material (WO3 for example). Light absorption rate or reflection rate is determined by the state of EC material. When there is no voltage applied, the mirror is at bright state while the mirror is at dark state when voltage is applied. It takes 4 to 6 seconds for EC material to change from bright to dark completely at room temperature. It even takes longer (8 to 10 seconds) to change from dark to bright state. The reaction time is too long to protect drivers from the glare induced Troxler effect.
